    6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to provide essential website functionality and improve your experience. This section explains what cookies we use and how you can manage them.

    Types of Cookies We Use

    Essential Cookies:

    • Authentication cookies that keep you logged into your account
    • Session cookies that maintain your connection to our servers
    • Security cookies that help protect your account

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be disabled.

    Functional Cookies:

    • Preference cookies that remember your settings and choices
    • Consent cookies that record your cookie preferences

    Specific Cookies We Use

    • Supabase Authentication (sb-*): Session management cookies that keep you logged in. These expire when you log out or after an extended period of inactivity.
    • Cookie Consent Preference: Stored in your browser's local storage to remember whether you have accepted or declined non-essential cookies.
    • Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*): Used to distinguish users and sessions for website analytics. These cookies are only set if you accept analytics cookies. The _ga cookie expires after 2 years; _ga_* cookies expire at the end of the session.
    • Meta Pixel (_fbp): Set by the Meta Pixel to identify browsers for ad delivery and reporting. Only set if you accept cookies. Expires after 3 months.
    • Nextdoor Pixel (ndp_*): Set by the Nextdoor Pixel for ad targeting and measurement. Only set if you accept cookies.

    Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors interact with our website. When you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics may collect information such as:

    • Pages you visit and how long you spend on them
    • How you arrived at our website (referral source)
    • Your general geographic location (city/region level, not precise)
    • Your browser type and device category

Google Analytics does not collect your name, email address, or other personally identifying information through these cookies.

We use Google Consent Mode v2, which means:

    • If you click "Accept" on our cookie banner, analytics cookies will be set
    • If you choose "Necessary Only," no analytics cookies are set and Google receives only anonymous, cookieless signals for aggregated modeling
    • You can change your choice at any time from your Profile settings

For more information about how Google handles data, visit Google's Privacy Policy.

    Advertising & Retargeting Pixels

When you accept cookies, we use the following third-party advertising pixels to serve relevant ads and measure campaign performance. These pixels are not loaded for visitors who choose "Necessary Only" or use a Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal.

    • Meta Pixel (Facebook/Instagram): Allows us to show retargeted ads on Facebook and Instagram to visitors who have interacted with our site. We use Meta's Automatic Advanced Matching feature, which hashes identifiers such as email addresses and phone numbers before sending them to Meta for ad matching. Consent is revoked by default and only granted when you click "Accept." For more information, see Meta's Privacy Policy.
    • Google Ads (Remarketing): Enables conversion tracking and remarketing on Google Search and Display networks. Controlled by Google Consent Mode v2 — no advertising cookies are set unless you accept. See Google's Privacy Policy.
    • Nextdoor Pixel: Used for neighborhood-targeted ad campaigns on the Nextdoor platform. The pixel script is not loaded at all unless you have accepted cookies. See Nextdoor's Privacy Policy.

You can opt out of advertising tracking at any time by clicking "Do Not Sell or Share My Info" in our website footer, or by choosing "Necessary Only" in your Profile cookie preferences.

    Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You can manage cookies in the following ways:

    • Cookie Banner: When you first visit our site, you can accept all cookies or choose "Necessary Only" to limit cookies to essential functionality. Accepting enables analytics cookies; choosing "Necessary Only" keeps them off.
    • Profile Settings: If you have an account, you can reset your cookie preferences at any time from the Privacy & Cookies section of your Profile page.
    • Browser Settings: Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically find these options in the "Privacy" or "Security" section of your browser preferences.
    • Clearing Cookies: You can delete existing cookies at any time through your browser settings.

Please note that disabling essential cookies may prevent you from using certain features of our website, such as staying logged in to your account.

    7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes encryption, secure servers, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

    • Right to Opt-Out: You can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising using the "Do Not Sell or Share My Info" link in our website footer. Note: we do not sell personal data for money, but we do share hashed identifiers with advertising platforms (Meta, Google, Nextdoor) when you accept cookies.
    • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights

To submit a request, please contact us at privacy@candoo.app.

    11. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our services and fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law. When you close your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable timeframe, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes.

    12. Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links to third-party websites, services, or applications. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

    12. Children's Privacy

Our services are not intended for children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

    13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes that significantly affect how we use your personal information, we will notify you at least 30 days in advance via email or prominent notice on our website. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of our services after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
